Beginning a healthy diet

Many people want to start a healthy diet, but don't know where to start. Here I'll discuss some things you can do to get started.

1. Set your mind to it

Before you decide to change the way you eat, you need to be sure that's what you want to do. Make sure that you are ready to make the change in your life, and maintain that change. You need to have confidence that you will be able to succeed, because doubts are not going to help you overcome any struggles you face. You need to know how much change you need to make, and you need to be able to start right away, without continuously postponing it.

2. Plan it

Think about the foods you would like to include in your diet. If your not sure you can research about the many healthy options you can add into your daily diet such as:

  • fruit
  • vegatables
  • low-fat dairy products
  • lean meats
  • low calorie treats
  • whole grain/wheat foods
For someone who is just begining to eat healthy, it may be difficult to make the transition, so making a meal plan for two weeks may be a very useful guide, until you get used to the new lifestyle. Figure out what you want to eat every day for all 5 meals throughout the day. You can always find sample meal plans online, however you neeed to make sure they include all the nutrients you need. Your day should consist of the following meals, at roughly these times:

  1. Breakfast:  7:00-8:00 am
  2. Snack:       10:00-10:30 am
  3. Lunch:       12:30 pm
  4. Snack:       2:30-3:00 pm
  5. Dinner:       5:00-5:30 pm
 * Make sure that you keep at least 2 hours between each meal.
 * You can drink as much water throughout the day

Below are some useful links to some free online mealplans available for you to use as a guide:

Remember, if you feel like something is too many calories, or not diet appropriate, you can always replace it with something healthy that consists of a lower amount of calories.

3. Do it!

Now that everything is planned out, and you are mentally and physically ready to begin your healthy diet, you may start following your meal plan. Do your best when it comes to avoiding the snacking that happens when you're bored between meals. Remember that your meal plans are not carved on stone, so you may always replace one food with another, as long as you feel it is a right decision.

4. Keep it going..

Now the last thing I want to mention is for you to keep it going!! If you are trying to lose some weight, it may take a while depending on your body, and if you're just trying to say healthy, remember, its for your own good..Never give up!

Goodluck!! :)
